Our board of directors manages the affairs of our nonprofit, appoints (and removes) the officers, and defines the authority and duties of each officer.
Officers’ Duties and Responsibilities
The Chairperson oversees the organization’s general activities, internally and externally, in its various aspects. The chairman consults with the board of directors and the advisory board before considering any decision to make an informed decision. The chairperson also represents the community’s external activities, like international organizations, political leaders, and government officials.
The Vice-Chairman acts on behalf of the President when he is unavailable and closely works with the board of directors and all of the committees of the board, consulting with the Chairman and the advisory committee. The V-Chair serves as the eyes and ears of the movement and the community that will update things that happen internally and externally.
The Director of the Public Relations and Media is responsible for community relations and publicities of the community’s internal and external affairs. The director also serves as the spokesperson of the organization and the general movement. He/she connects the Somali Bantu community with other Somali and non-Somali communities in the diaspora and in Somalia.
The Secretary is responsible for record-keeping of the organization and oversees the document flow within and outside the organization.
The Treasurer is responsible for fundraising and oversees the financial flow of the organization. He/she also researches for financial resources.
The Registered Agent is the person to whom lawsuits will be served on behalf of the organization.
The Governing Board
The Internal Affairs Committee is responsible for organizing the community on a national and international level to connect with the local groups and/or organizations. The board will be responsible for conflict resolution, developing teams in each city or state, and recruiting more people for the community’s national leadership projects. This committee will also research and develop internal community resources, like grants and public service programs, and encourage candidates to run for public office in the United States and Somalia.
The External Affairs Committee is responsible for conducting and strategizing the political activities in Somalia and international business opportunities. This committee will research potential political opportunities in Somalia and business/investment opportunities in other countries and share them with the community in the United States. The committee will be responsible for bridging the gap between the people in Somalia and the United States. The committee will address the problems our people face in Somalia and will engage with the International Community, like the UN, African Union, European Union, and the government of the United States.
